How Much Does Mediation Cost?

Mediation Information And Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
The purpose of this meeting is to see each party on a one to one basis, to decide as to the suitability of your case for mediation and to assess whether you may be eligible to receive free mediation. You will need to allow 45 to 60 minutes for this meeting as we will also explain the process and principles of mediation which will, hopefully, allow you to make an informed decision about whether you wish to enter into the mediation process.

Your initial one to one appointment will be at a cost of £100.00 +VAT (£120.00).
We will collect the appointment cost of £100.00 +VAT (£120.00) when coordinating the initial appointment. The appointment cost will not be refunded if the enquiry is cancelled, or you fail to attend your appointment.
If mediation does not proceed, we will, upon request, endorse the relevant Form (FM1, Form A or C100) for you or your solicitors to submit to Court under the Pre-Action Protocol. The charge for this administration will be from £30.00 +VAT (£36.00).
Mediation Meetings – Effective from 01 May 2025
The cost of 1 hour must be paid in advance of each appointment. Each mediating party will be responsible for their own costs. The costs set out below are the costs per party.
Our charges for Mediation appointments are as follows:
Children Arrangements – Hourly rate from: £150.00 +VAT (£180.00)
Property & Financial – Hourly rate from: £150.00 +VAT (£180.00)
All Issues – Hourly rate from: £150.00 +VAT (£180.00)
Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM): one off cost of £75.00 +VAT (£90.00)
In addition, if parties reach agreed proposals in mediation, our charges for the relevant documentation are as follows:
Children Arrangement Mediation
Summary Letter: £60.00 +VAT (£72.00)
Forward Parenting Plan Letter: £100.00 + VAT (£120.00)
Property & Financial Mediation
Summary Letter: £180.00 +VAT (£216.00)
Memorandum of Understanding and Open Financial Statement of Information: £200.00 +VAT (£240.00)
All Issues Mediation
Summary Letter: £180.00 +VAT (£216.00)

If it is established that you are eligible for public funding by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) during your appointment, the appointment cost will be refunded, and any other meetings will be free as mediation proceeds. The appointment cost will not be refunded if the enquiry is cancelled or you fail to attend your appointment.
If you are in receipt of Universal Credit or Employment & Support Allowance we will collect a non-refundable deposit* of £50.00 +VAT (£60.00) when coordinating the initial appointment. If it is established that you are eligible for public funding by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) during your appointment, the deposit will be refunded, and any other meetings will be free as mediation proceeds. If you are not eligible for public funding by the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) a further payment of £50.00 +VAT (£60.00) will be payable on the day of your appointment as then our Private Client rates will apply.
*The deposit will only be refunded if you are assessed as eligible for public funding by the Legal Aid Agency. The deposit will not be refunded if the enquiry is cancelled or you fail to attend your appointment.
If mediation does not proceed we will, upon request, endorse the relevant Form (FM1, Form A or C100) for you or your solicitors to submit to Court under the Pre-Action Protocol. If you are deemed eligible for Legal Aid then there will be no administration charge for this.
To Establish If Clients Are Eligible For Public Funding (Legal Aid)
In order for us to undertake this assessment you must bring the following to the meeting with you:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Universal Credit
Bank statements for the 4 weeks immediately prior to your MIAM’s appointment showing the name and type of benefit you receive. For example, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance MUST be specified on the statement or additional evidence will be required e.g. your notification letter.
- Mortgage instalment (details of amount required)
- Rent paid (net of any Housing Benefit)
- Maintenance payments actually being made
- Payment of income contribution order (Criminal L/A)
In addition the following information will be required:
- The current market value of your house and/or any other property you (and/or your partner) own (if applicable)
- The outstanding mortgage/secured loan on your house and/or any other property you own (if applicable)
- Details of assets and possessions claimed by your opponent – Savings (bank, building society etc)
- Investments (shares, insurance policies etc)
- Value of items such as (boat, caravan, cars, motorbikes, jewellery etc.)
- Other capital (including money due to you)

*Wage slips for the 4 weeks immediately prior to your MIAMs together with copies of your bank statements(from all accounts for you [and your partner])
- Other income (including child benefit, pensions, Maintenance, dividends, tax credits, benefits in kind/financial assistance from family/friends etc.)
In addition the following information will be required:
- The current market value of your house and/or any other property you (and/or your partner) own (if applicable)
- The outstanding mortgage/secured loan on your house and/or any other property you own (if applicable)
- Details of assets and possessions claimed by your opponent – Savings (bank, building society etc)
- Investments (shares, insurance policies etc)
- Value of items such as (boat, caravan, car/s, motorbike/s, jewellery etc)
- Other capital (including money due to you)

*Evidence of drawings for the 4 weeks immediately prior to your MIAMs together with copies of your bank statements (from all accounts for you [and your partner] plus last tax calculation sheet form SA302 and cash book where appropriate)
- Other income (including child benefit, pensions, Maintenance, dividends, tax credits, benefits in kind/financial assistance from family/friends etc.)
In addition the following information will be required:
- The current market value of your house and/or any other property you (and/or your partner) own (if applicable)
- The outstanding mortgage/secured loan on your house and/or any other property you own (if applicable)
- Details of assets and possessions claimed by your opponent – Savings (bank, building society etc)
- Investments (shares, insurance policies etc)
- Value of items such as (boat, caravan, car/s, motorbike/s, jewellery etc)
